Blackpool will erect two
15kW wind turbines on the historical promenade by the
Sandcastle Water Park. The two 19.5 metre tall turbine generators are part of a pilot project which will assess
wind speeds, wind turbine output, and therefore the number of turbines required in a proposed wider project.
Julian Kearsley, a Blackpool council spokesman said of the pilot project, "
Geographically, Blackpool is in a tremendous position to harness the power of the wind and turn it to our advantage., and that, "
The pilot will also give local people a chance to comment on the designs and for us to consider the turbines as part of the new promenade we're creating..

The two £147,000
wind turbines will help to power Blackpool's world famous
Illuminations and
Sandcastle Water Park. Fixed to 19.5 metre poles, the three-blade wind turbines have 9 metre diameter blades
.
A third smaller
helical Quietrevolution QR5 wind turbine (pictured above) will be added in early May as Blackpool councillors assess the best kind of wind turbine for their location. All three
wind turbines are expected to pay for themselves within 15 years and are expected to remain in operation for 25 years.
